Luau Party Ideas for a Hawaiian Celebration

Make your own hula skirts.

 

OK, its the end of summer the store shelves are now filled with School Stuff. The dollar store is out of hula skirts and the girls just CAN't have a tropical party without a skirt. SO, we created our own. Purchased a colorful table cloth. Cut it into strips and then made our OWN skirts held together with packaging tape. Surprisingly they lasted a long time! Coordinated with a custom fit!

 

 

Decorate with Sea Shells!

Purchase inexpensive shells from the craft store.
Glue the shells onto inexpensive frames….even if they make them out of cardboard.

Paint the frames, let dry completely, then glue the shells onto the frame. Depending on the size of the shells you might have to use hot glue.

Take photos of the kids, in groups or alone and place in frame.

It will keep memories alive if the photo was of friends together.

 

 

 

Old jars….jelly, mao, etc. Send through dishwasher first! Cover the outside with paint and let dry…..then glue on the shells…..they will have a special collectible jar for their ‘treasures’. Maybe even have a ‘treasure hunt’ of small
items to take home in their jar….chocolate coins, etc.

 

Don't Forget the Fish!!

Ok, finding fish crafts is pretty easy. We have done our own verisons of these crafts throughout the years. To make your searching one step easier I have made a collection of inspiration for our most successful fish craft creations. Don't forget to use our printable craft instructions. Save the images that provide you the most inspiration and you have custom instructions! These are our recommendations based on ages 3 - 7 for ease of creating, cuteness of results. Extra stars are rewarded to those crafts that also provided an ease of clean up too! Those however are few and far between.

Cut a triangle shape to form a mouth (this piece can also be used for the tail).

 

Colour the fish in with felt pens or crayons or decorate it various material including foil, buttons, ribbons, colored paper and glitter.

 

Adhere the wedge that you cut from the plate as the tail.

 

Draw an eye or or use a googly eye.

It brings them together and adds an element of tradition to the festivities. Holidays should be about creating positive lifelong memories.
While your children may not be able to participate in much of the cooking of Luau dinner or purchasing Luau gifts, you can put them to use by allowing them to decorate the house in anticipation with handmade Luau crafts. Our tradition is to set up a craft table with several different projects at the Luau Dinner gathering. We use those crafts as presents for visiting family and decorations for our home.
