Snowman Crafts

Are you looking for unique Christmas crafts for children? These snowman decorations are fun, easy, and inexpensive Christmas crafts for children of all ages! In fact, you'll probably have as much fun with them as the kids do. Christmas crafts for children or not, these snowmen bring out the kid in all of us. Make a bunch of tube sock snowman and decorate the mantle. Smaller versions could be made with children's socks and used to decorate the tree.

Tube Sock Snowman

Supplies:

* Tube Sock
* uncooked rice (approx. 2 cups) \
* string
* 2 plastic baggies

Suggested items for decoration:
* small green pompoms
* extra small brown pompoms
* small brown pompom - or - orange pipecleaner cut for length of nose
* googly eyes, seed beads, small black pom poms

* use an additional baby sock for hat)
* red yarn or ribbon
* glue gun

(GLUE GUNS SHOULD BE USED WITH ADULT SUPERVISION!)

1. fill a plastic baggie with 1 cup rice. (this should fill 2/3 of sock,
2. you may need more or less depending on the size of the sock)
3. tie the top of baggie with twist tie.
4. put bag inside tube sock.
5. Tie tightly with string
6. repeat above using 1/2 cup of rice (more or less)
7. tie tightly with string.
8. fold over the ribbed part of the sock to make the snowman's hat.
9. Cut 3 strands of yarn and tie around the snowman's neck
10. glue on green buttons, brown mouth and nose
11. glue on eyes
12. make a tassel on the top of the hat with yarn, glue

ALTERNATE design:

Cut off cuff of sock for hat, fill rest of sock 2/3 full of rice and tie and roll the rest for a collar.
Use a Wooden Ball for the head. Painted White
On a wood ball, drill small hole for round toothpick carrot nose.
Use black paint for for eyes and buttons. ( using wood end of paint brush for black dots).
Glue hat to head, head to collar, and trim as you like.

I prefer the look of these little snowman however my youngest crafters have a hard time waiting for the paint to dry. I often prep this snowman craft by prepainting the heads white.
