Materials: • Pieces of white and black paper • Desk lamp (no shade) • Pencil, black crayon, white chalk • Tape • Glue Directions: 1. Have a child sit in a chair with one side facing the wall. The chair should be a few inches from the wall. 2. Turn on the lamp about ten feet away. A shadow will appear. Tape the white paper 3. Have the model sit still as you complete the outline. (for my little ones I actually held their head still as I did their face and chin then moved my arm for the hair.) By the way, don't tell them "don't move" while you are drawing their lips - they will respond by saying "ok" and then your lips are messed up! 4. Take the silhouette from the wall. Cut it out. 5. Trace a silhouette using chalk on black paper. Cut out the silhouette and glue it on white paper. 6. After you're done tracing, cut the silhouette out and glue it onto another piece of construction paper. Try making silhouettes of your family or friends so that you can have your own silhouette art gallery. OPTIONS: you can do, as I did, and create different colors for more than one child in a family. These are my four girls scanned and printed from the computer to create a printable craft heirloom we will frame for Nana.
