Simple & Easy Preschool Christmas Crafts

A CANDY CANE ORNAMENT

Preschool Christmas Crafts have always been very popular, so whether you're just looking for some free craft ideas to keep the children entertained on a winter's day or you're looking for children's holiday party ideas, you are at the right place.

Materials Needed:
Beads & pipecleaner
Candy Cane

red or white chenille stem
red and white pony beads

Use a red or white chenille stem and thread pony beads alternating
red and white. Bend the chenille stem over end beads on both ends
and bend into shape of cane. Teaches patterning ABAB. Helps with hand eye coordination.

ADULT SUPERVISION IS REQUIRED. Beads are small and can become choking hazards if not monitered. Consider making your own beads from salt dough.

Salt Dough Alternative: What You Need

4 Cups of Flour
1 Cup of Salt
1 1/2 Cups of Hot Water
Washable Paints - red / white

Make dough split batch in half - add red paint to one batch, white paint to another. Depending on the amount of paint you add you might have to add a little more flour.

Knead the dough and roll it out into a small balls - use a chopstick to poke a hole in the middle.

Place them on a microwave safe plate and microwave on high for about 2 minutes. String them on the pipecleaner.

Bend final edges over the last bead to keep them in place.

a brighter option - and even MORE messy is to paint the salt dough AFTER cooking and then allow them to dry before stringing. Of course this turns a one day project into a couple days.
