Christmas Kids Craft: Christmas Cards

It is a common activity for kids to make Christmas cards during this season. For me, this activity never goes old. It is actually a great way to teach them the real meaning of Christmas.

To start out this activity, have the children read the story of Jesus’ birth on the manger or how the Three Wise Kings journeyed to meet the newborn King. The background story will spark their imagination as it will evoke images of Mary giving birth to the infant Jesus, Jesus lying on the manger together with the animals, the angels singing to proclaim and celebrate Christ’s birth, the Three Wise Kings following a big star in the night sky, and the Three Wise Kings offering gifts of gold, myrrh, and frankincense.

Print out cards that contain this Biblical message from John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Ask the kids to make their own designs on the cards according to their interpretation of the story of Jesus’ birth. Let their imagination tell them what to draw or put in their artwork. Allow them to choose their own materials that they want to use for this project such as colored pens, crayons, paint, collage, etc. Just make sure these materials are available and put them on the table so that they can go ahead and choose the medium of their choice.

Let them write their own Christmas message to the person they want to give the card to. Messages can be as simple as “Merry Christmas, Dad!” Other messages can be:

“Have a meaningful and blessed Christmas season.”

“Cheerful Christmas greetings from our family to yours.”

Here at Holiday Kids Craft, we believe that activities like this make the celebration much more meaningful for kids and their loved ones.
